On May 30-31 2008 the Northern Wisconsin State Fair grounds (and surrounding neighbors) witnessed live Christian music at the third annual Christian Family Music Fest from over 20 artists on three stages. This family event featured some of the top Christian artist with headliners Mark Schultz and BarlowGirl with special guests Rush of Fools and Ayiesha Woods also performing Saturday on the main stage. This event is held to bring Christians together in praise and thanksgiving for the gifts God has given us. Proceeds from this event are designated for the Chippewa Area Catholic Schools.
The event kicked off with a Battle of the Bands contest on Friday evening with 8 bands competing for a cash prize as well as the opportunity to open the main stage national acts on Saturday. The participants in the Battle of the Bands contest were; Nona Fay (Canby, MN), Trinity Voice (Osseo, WI), Nicole Clark (Boyceville, WI), Lightswitch (Wilson, WI), God's Song (Western Wisconsin), Rex Lex (Mt Horeb, WI), Nooma Band (Eau Claire, WI) and Validity (Chippewa Falls, WI). The winner of the contest was Rex Lex who in turn was the Saturday opening act on the main stage. The second place band was Lightswitch.
On Saturday Validity (our local youth group) began the day of music by performing at noon. Music filled the fairgrounds throughout the day as fans were treated to a variety of music, fantastic food and activities for all ages. Activities included a children's play area with inflatable attractions, free horseback rides and the addition of over 35 vendors and exhibitors displaying religious articles for sale as well as non-profit organizations offering services to the community. A prayer tents was available for all denominations to gather and pray together as well as a pro-life tent with information on adoption and other services from the Chippewa Falls/Eau Claire community.
